Medical University Varna

Medical University – Varna was founded in 1961 in the city of Varna. It was initially regarded as a Higher Medical Institute and only in 1995 it was renamed Medical University-Varna following a decision of the National Assembly. In 2002, it was named afterProf. Dr. ParaskevStoyanov, who laid the foundations of the First Bulgarian School of Surgery, as well as aChildren Sea Sanatorium for Tuberculosis of Bones and Joints, which was the only one of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula.
Medical University-Varna is one of the first members of the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN). In 2004, in the Netherlands the university is approved as a full member of the European University Association (EUA). The Medical University is the only one in Bulgaria that introduced in 2008 a model of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). MU-Varna is maintaining partnerships with over 80 universities and educational institutions from 40 countries on 5 continents. Since 2001 up to 2007 MU – Varna organized exchange of students and lecturers under the “Socrates-Erasmus” programme. Since 2010 in the clinicalbases of MU – Varna there has been a student exchange for summer practices with the First Moscow State Medical University “I. M. Sechenov” and the North-Western State Medical University”I. I. Mechnikov ” in Saint Petersburg.
Medical University – Varna is among the first universities in Europe, attracting a large number of international students. More than 8 351 Bulgarian students and 977 foreign students from 45 different countries have graduated since its founding. With its development over the years, Medical University – Varna maintains four hospitals, founded in the 70s and 80s: University Hospital “St.Marina “- the largest diagnostic and consultative hospital in the region; University Hospital “St.Anna”; Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment in Obstetrics and Gynecology; Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Eye Diseases.
The University prepares specialists in the fields of Medicine and Healthcare, Dental medicine and Pharmacy for acquiring of Bachelor’s, Master’s, Professional Bachelor’s degrees. The diplomas awarded by the university are recognized in all the countries of the European Union. The university has affiliates in the cities of Shumen, Sliven and VelikoTarnovo.

Faculties at the Medical University – Varna:

Language of instruction – English.

Period of training – 6 years (10 semesters + 6 state final examinations)

Total number of places– 250

Annual fee – € 9 000 (The fee is payable in two equal installments of € 4 500 each, at the beginning of each semester)

After a successful completion, graduates are awarded Master’s degree along with the professional qualification “Master – Physician”. PhD students are trained and postgraduate studies are held on a wide range of disciplines.

Annual fee – € 9 000 (The fee is payable in two equal installments of € 4 500 each, at the beginning of each semester)

After a successful completion, graduates are awarded Master’s degree.

This is one of the youngest and, at the same time one of the most advanced Faculties of Dental Medicine on the Balkans. The first in the country Academic Implantology Centre of the Faculty was established in 2009.

All prospective students are required to conduct Admission examinations (tests) in Biology and Chemistry. The entry tests are held in Varna and the dates for 2023 are as follows:

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA:

In order to apply for studies to Medical University Varna, the minimum mean rating mark from specific
subjects, taught at school SHOULD NOT be less than 62% out of the maximum value of the
assessment system in the respective country.
